A daily-wage worker of a thread-manufacturing company was handed over two months’ salary just before the lockdown was announced in March 2020. Due to the surge in prices of food and daily commodities, the money that could have lasted for another two months was quickly exhausted. This is the story of 42-year old Mohan Jadhav.

Since the peak in the number of positive cases decreased from 93,000 cases in September 2020 to 11,000 in mid-February 2021, everyone started to breathe a sigh of relief that everything will finally be back to normal.
But then, the COVID-19 pandemic came back with a bang and this time, it was stronger; it took away the lives of thousands of people and millions of them tested positive all over the world. As if this was not enough, it continued to affect the low-income sections of the society. Lockdowns were announced in various states to curb the spread of the virus and millions of migrants travelled back home to ensure they stayed with their family during these tough times.

However, the number of people who are dependent on these meals are constantly on the rise.
This NGO in India serves construction-site workers, labourers, daily-wagers and needy people from old age centres. Depending on the state in which the COVID Relief Service is carried out, fresh meals that comprise of dal and rice, or khichadi/roti and subji are served. These freshly-prepared meals are served in 28 locations of India that include Hyderabad, Jaipur, Delhi NCR, Bangalore, Surat, Ahmedabad, Kandi, Vadodara, Bhilai, Ajmer, Mathura, Vrindavan, Lucknow, Vizag, Ballari, Silvassa, Thane, Pune, Bhilwara, Jhalawar, Nathdwara, Chittorgarh, Chennai, Vijayawada, Hubballi, Mysore, Mangalore, Nagpur, Bhavnagar and Puri.
