covid19 pandemic

The first wave of the COVD-19 pandemic brought with it a disaster that the world had never seen before. The deeply affected people were the ones who depended on their daily wages for their livelihoods. India saw something like a mass exodus of migrants. Daily-wagers went back to their hometown with their family and children. With no job to save for the future and no money to buy groceries or other essentials, the migrant communities were the worst hit.

The Akshaya Patra Foundation joined hands with the Central Government, State Governments and District Authorities of India to begin its COVID relief service. Here are a few stories of people who have benefitted from Akshaya Patra’s feeding initiative.

With the help of people who gave charity in India, Akshaya Patra served a cumulative of 124 million (12.4-crore) meals that included cooked meals, grocery kits and happiness kits. Each kit contained dry ration that could help a family sustain for a month.

Slowly as things started to get back to normal after a few months, people started reopening their business, daily-wage labourers again got their jobs and things started to sail smoothly.

This is when the second wave of the pandemic struck all of us again. And this time, it has come back stronger and is deadlier. It is affecting millions of people and this is why we need to reach out to many more of them this year. Donate online to be a part of Akshaya Patra’s COVID relief service. Remember, we can tackle this pandemic only by uniting with each other.
