Akshaya Patra, a mid-day meal NGO in India has been nourishing government school children with healthy mid-day meals for the past 21 years. Amid crisis situations, this NGO steps in to provide food relief to economically weaker sections of the society, and it did the same during the COVID pandemic too.

It has been an unprecedented journey ever since the outbreak of COVID-19. World organisations, government bodies, NGOs and charitable organisations, healthcare systems, public administrations, and the civil society has been putting up a tough fight against COVID-19 for more than two years. The rapid spread of the pandemic across the world affected each and every one and all aspects of our lives – personal, professional, financial, emotional, and most importantly health. While we were gearing up with hygiene and immunity products to safeguard ourselves from the virus, the socio-economically weaker sections were pushed to battle against an additional crisis called hunger.

The support system
The adversities caused by COVID has been devastating, but it brought the entire society together with the objective to help each other in all possible ways. While a section of the society was fighting against the virus, the other section was striving to ensure well-being and food security among the underprivileged communities. Several NGOs began food relief services and individuals came forward in full support to feed the needy by choosing to donate to charity. As always, The Akshaya Patra Foundation, an NGO in India stepped in to provide food relief to socio-economically weaker sections in the form of cooked food and ration kits.
